The fantasies of a mature accountant who get hotter with each successive sip of wine. “Clap!” is “Fifty Shades of Gray” in the theater adaptation of Krystyna Janda.
E.B. Janet, an accountant who stays home alone for the weekend, begins to describe her erotic fantasies over a bottle of wine. The characters are Grey, a young, handsome and rich man, and Natasha, a younger version of E. B. Janet. The more wine the accountant drinks, the faster, hotter and more passionate things happen on stage.
Contrary to the original “Klaps!” is not a harlequin — it is rather a great fun with convention and a constant eye opening to the viewer. And all this is decorated with great songs, among others from the movie “Cabaret” or from the repertoire of... Enrique Iglesias.
The play was directed by John Weisgerber, a Canadian living in Poland, for Teatr Polonia, founded by Krystyna Janda. The silent hero of the success of this staging is the translator. This is Bartosz Wierzbięta — the man who bravely translated into Polish the dialogues for such hits as “Shrek” or “Madagascar”.
