Wyspiański's drama, or a story about guilt, punishment and the figure of the scapegoat, is a suggestive description of mentality. In the recording of an authentic event from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries from a village in Podtarnów, where infanticide took place, Wyspiański faces the problem of living between culture and nature, between norms and emotions, philosophy and biology.
The play is directed by Seb Majewski and is his first encounter with post-romantic dramaturgy. The Wałbrzych Curse is also the first production of this drama after a provocative performance by Olivier Frljic in Warsaw's Teatr Powszechny. Our realization is not about confronting the Frljica scandal, but about finding in Wyspiański's text human motivations that do not result from bad intentions, but in the unfavorable aftermath can lead to a crisis.
