He should not be absent from a biennial that is characterized by faith, hope and doubt: Olivier Messiaen. His work is deeply influenced by his Catholic faith: “The drama of my life is that I wrote religious music for an audience that has no faith.” With his monumental piano cycle Vingt regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus, Messiaen created 20 contemplative, mystical and highly expressive meditations on the baby Jesus. Bertrand Chamayou has been working on this work since he was nine years old. According to the pianist, it had had a lasting impact on his entire artistic approach.
