Our one hundred and thirty-first proposal within the framework of the cycle will be a bittersweet story about an unexpected journey, difficult family ties and the search for one's own place in the world. An unusual journey through America, which will begin with an unexpected phone call.
Fate can in an instant turn upside down the chewing that has been so difficult to put in order. The main character is one step away from fulfilling her biggest dream. She works two jobs, saves every penny and prepares for gender correction surgery. However, when she receives a call from New York a few days before the procedure, her neatly organized world suddenly falls apart. She learns that she has a teenage son, whose existence she had no idea existed.
A few days later, she is already sitting in the car with a teenager whom she actually does not know. Thousands of miles ahead of them, ahead of her — the need to face something she's been trying to escape from for years. Each of them has its own goal, its own secrets and its own plan. It will soon be revealed that the road could change much more than either of them imagined. Full of humor, emotions and awkward situations, the journey becomes an attempt to build relationships from scratch and answer the question of what a family really is.
In the center of the story is the outstanding, awarded the Golden Globe and Oscar nominee Felicity Huffman for this role. She is accompanied by Kevin Zegers. Director Duncan Tucker has created a road movie that chooses tenderness, irony and attentiveness to its characters instead of big words.
This is a story about secrets that cannot be kept indefinitely. A past that one day claims its place. About two people who embark on a journey, not yet knowing that the most important goal of this journey may turn out to be to find each other. It's a film that, after nearly two decades, continues to inspire conversation — not only about who we are, but also about how we look at others.
