About the event

We invite you to the third meeting of the series “Literary clubs with an expert” as part of the year-round project “Literature without borders”.

Another discussion entitled: “Women's Voices of Naples: About Elena Ferrante's Work” will take place on November 18, 2026 (Wednesday) at 17:00 in the reading room of the Main Library (1st floor, Franciszskanska Street 11).

The moderator of the event will be Marcin Wilk — author of non-fiction literature, journalist, columnist, literary critic and consultant of literary programs.

Admission is free.

This time we will travel to Italy to take a look at the work of one of the most intriguing and esteemed contemporary writers — Elena Ferrante. Together with Marcin Wilek we will consider what the Italian author is all about and what makes her novels move readers around the world. We will look at literary portraits of women who defy stereotypes and relationships where closeness and affection intertwine with rivalry, jealousy and the need for independence.

We will try to answer the questions: Can friendship build and destroy at the same time? How do family experiences and social expectations shape a woman's identity? Do Ferrante's heroines manage to break free from the environment they come from? We will also consider the role played in her novels by Naples, a city full of contrasts, which is not only the background of events, but also an important element of the stories told.

The meeting will have the character of an open, free discussion, during which each participant will be able to share their insights, interpretations and reader impressions. It is not necessary to be an expert in literature or to know all the achievements of Elena Ferrante. All you need is curiosity, openness to different points of view and the desire to talk about books.

The event will be held as part of the project “Literature without borders” co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage from the Fund for the Promotion of Culture.
