“Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown” is one of the most famous Spanish films. The director knew strong women perfectly. His father was a mule pusher, he spent a lot of time away from home, so Almodóvar grew up surrounded by women. And probably this experience and the strong bond with his mother were the reason why he decided to cast independent, extraordinary heroines in his films.

Pepa tries to contact Ivan, who broke up with her after years of relationship, but stumbles upon his ex-wife, Lucia, and a new lover, Paulina. Determined to leave the past behind, she wants to rent an apartment in the center of Madrid where they lived together. By a twist of fate, Ivan's son Carlos and his fiancée, Marisa, want to live in it. The situation is complicated by the circumstances in which Pepa's friend Candela is involved. The house slowly fills up with people who quench their thirst with a tantalizingly refreshing gazpacho, prepared by Pepa.
