Paul Barz's “Dinner for Four Hands” is a meeting of two outstanding composers: Georg Friedrich Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach. For years, historians have wrongly assumed that their meeting took place in 1747 in Leipzig. Today, thanks to newly discovered sources, we know that they met at the castle in Bielsko, a Silesian city of the Habsburg monarchy situated on the border with the Republic of Biała River. Their meeting becomes an opportunity to confront two different personalities, experiences and perspectives on art.
At the center of this confrontation is the artist: his ambitions, his success, his independence and the price he comes to pay for it. Handel and Bach's conversation allows us to look at the work both from the perspective of the great
achievements as well as daily choices.
The play, directed by Mariusz Malec, is created in cooperation with the Polish Theatre in Bielsko-Biała and the Historical Museum in Bielsko-Biała.
It will be presented in the unique space of the Music Hall of the Castle of the Dukes of Sułkowski, which provides a natural backdrop for the meeting of two great composers.
IMPORTANT INFORMATIONWhen the performance begins, it will not be possible to enter the hall. A late person is not entitled to a refund for purchased tickets.
Premiere: October 24 and 25, 2026.
