Dream Committee

The Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw invites you to workshops for adults that accompany the exhibition “You are at the heart of change. Surrealism and Anti-Fascism.”

Surrealism developed from the beginning at the intersection of different fields - art, literature and politics. Creators of this trend questioned existing norms, challenged familiar patterns of thinking and sought completely new forms of expression of reality. During our meeting we will focus on visual poetry — a form in which word and image meet on equal terms. We will examine what happens to the text when it ceases to be exclusively a carrier of meaning, but also begins to act through its form, arrangement and materiality. We will look for ways to cross the line between literature and the visual arts and draw inspiration from the surrealist imagination and its love for constant experimentation.

What are we gonna do?

In the first part we will see together selected works from the exhibition, which combine elements of visual arts and literature in a fascinating way. We will consider how artists and women artists of the early 20th century blurred the boundaries between these media. We will also look at the manifestos, leaflets and posters that are in the museum's showcases. Eager persons will be able to read aloud selected fragments of surrealist poems, which will certainly introduce us to the atmosphere of poetic readings.

In the second part, we will move on to practical action. We will look for inspiration in the practices of surrealists and surrealists — from playing the “fine troupe” to automatic writing. The final result of the meeting will be poems in which the text and the image are exactly equal in meaning.

For whom?

The workshop is aimed at all people who are interested in creative work with the word. We invite both those people who write often or occasionally, and those who have absolutely no experience in this area yet.
