Award-winning staging of Philip Roth's acclaimed novel directed by Adam Sajnuk and Aleksandra Popławska.
This is Alexander Portnoy: Jew and antisemite, sexaholic and onanist, sissy and rebel, chauvinist and... deputy commissioner of New York for equality. The protagonist of the play tries to find his own identity in its pure, unwritten form — free from Semitic upbringing, family affinities and painful attachments. He doesn't know it's impossible yet.
The show is an adaptation of the cult novel, which in the 70s became the manifesto of the American generation. Two Feliks Warszawskie recognized the Warsaw project: in the most important category for directing for Adam Sajnuk (who also plays Alex) and Aleksandra Popławska, and for her acting debut for Anna Smołowik, who created both Portnoy's modest sister and numerous incarnations of his lovers.
Sajnuk's staging can be praised for a long time, but the best review should be the words of Lech Śliwonik, former rector of the Theatre Academy and editor-in-chief of “Sceny”, who wrote briefly on its pages: “Really good work. Let it be — very good.”
