NATIONAL WIND ORCHESTRA IN LUBLIN — the first brass philharmonic in Poland.
The National Wind Orchestra in Lubin is the first brass philharmonic in Poland — an institution that has consistently expanded the way of thinking about the wind orchestra and its place in contemporary musical culture since its inception.
It was founded in 2019 on the initiative of President Lubin Robert Raczyński and since then has systematically developed concert, phonographic and educational activities, presenting the possibilities of the contemporary brass orchestra far beyond its traditional perception.
NOD is made up of professional instrumentalists. The ensemble ranges from classics of literature intended for wind orchestras, as well as contemporary, film and entertainment music. A special place in his activity is occupied by the symphonic wind stream — a repertoire with a symphonic scale, an elaborate form, rich colors and dramaturgy, composed from scratch with an orchestra of wind and percussion instruments in mind.
In just seven years of operation, the National Wind Orchestra has built its own distinct artistic identity. Her ambition is not only to perform music at the highest level, but also to break the stereotypical image of the brass band and restore to the Polish public the extremely rich world literature written for such ensembles.
An important moment in the history of the orchestra became the year 2026 and the release of the album “Symphony of Sounds”. This is the first phonographic album in Poland presenting the symphonic wind repertoire in its entirety. Recorded under the baton of Sebastian Perłowski, the program includes works by artists belonging to the canon of world literature for wind orchestra, including Alfred Reed, Samuel R. Hazo, Rossano Galante, Johan de Meij, Bert Appermont and Otto M. Schwarz.
An equally important event of the 2026 season was the participation of the National Wind Orchestra in the 58th International Horn Symposium “Horn in the City of Kings” in Krakow — the most important international event dedicated to the horn. Held since 1969, the symposium visited Poland and Central Europe for the first time in its history, bringing together in Krakow outstanding horn players, educators and artists from all over the world.
However, the activity of the National Wind Orchestra is not limited to major concert projects. An important part of its mission is music education and building a new audience — from the youngest listeners to the audience of classical and contemporary music. The orchestra performs symphonic and chamber concerts, festivals, educational projects and projects that combine music with other fields of art.
The National Wind Orchestra is today one of the most original phenomena on the Polish music scene — a band with a young history, but consciously building its own tradition. It shows that a brass orchestra can have the symphonic scale, the subtlety of the chamber sound and the palette of colors that allow us to tell musical stories with the same intensity as a classical symphony orchestra.
