About the event

On 19 November at 19.00 we invite you to the Municipal Library in Mikołów for a concert that will be played by the Portuguese musician João de Sousa. The event is part of the XII Festival of Jazz & Literature 2026. Tickets for PLN 45 can be purchased through our website and at the MDK Box Office.

Portuguese singer, guitarist and composer João de Sousa has been building his own recognizable musical language for years at the junction of tradition and the present. Born in Portugal and associated with Poland for many years, the artist draws inspiration from fado, Portuguese song, jazz, experimental and author music, creating a sound that defies simple definitions. He has collaborated with musicians from Poland, Europe and Latin America, and his achievements include numerous projects and phonographic publications, including realizations with musicians related to the Bastarda Trio.

In his solo program, João de Sousa presents original material based exclusively on voice and guitar. The starting point remains the tradition of fado, but the artist treats it not as a closed genre, but as an inspiration to search for new forms of narration, expression and the construction of musical time. This creates pieces that balance between song, improvisation and contemporary composition.

This is a concert for listeners looking for attentive contact with music. The compositions develop through subtle changes in texture, repetition, harmonic tensions and freely shaped dramaturgy. Lyrical sensibility meets the boldness of formal experimentation, and Portuguese melancholy meets modern, personal artistic language.

It is not just a concert, but a musical journey through memory, emotions and stories told through sound. An intimate encounter with an artist who can turn the simplicity of voice and guitar into a deep, moving story. An ideal proposal for the audience of poetic, ambitious and unobvious music, open to dialogue between tradition and the present.
