About the event

Ludomir Różycki, the representative of Young Poland in music, was one of the leading Polish composers of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The concert program included as many as three chamber compositions by this artist, representing a relatively small group of works in his work. Neo-romantic in terms of style Two melodies op. 5 for violin or cello and piano were created at the beginning of the 20th century, and will be played in the cello version at the Lower Silesian Philharmonic. In the same period, the Cello Sonata in A minor, Op. 10, dedicated to the composer's friend, cellist Konstantin Sarnecki, was composed. The work with a classic three-part structure is characterized by heightened emotionality and expression, which come to the fore. The melodiousness and lyricism, heard especially in the cello part, dominates the virtuosity, becoming the main determinant of the work. The Piano Quintet in C minor Op. 35 is one of Różycki's most outstanding chamber works. The piece combines tradition with modernity, which manifests itself, for example, in the way the piano is treated. From its most often attributed function as a solo instrument, it has become almost a substitute for orchestra. Enthusiastically received in Germany, it now appears less frequently in concert programs, but its positive reception is still not weakening.
