symphonic — After the end of the competition in Poznań, the winners of the Competition will perform at the National Philharmonic.
The concert of the winners of the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition is an opportunity to hear young violin masters standing at the threshold of an international career a few days after the end of the competition. This is the moment when the competition excitement is still alive and the music begins to flow beyond the competition.
The history of this cyclical event dates back to 1935. At that time, on the initiative of Adam Wieniawski — nephew of the patron saint — the first international violin competition dedicated to the work of Henryk Wieniawski was organized in Warsaw. The winner was Ginette Neveu, who was only sixteen years old. After the war, the competition found its permanent headquarters in Poznań. Since then, it has been held there every five years (with few exceptions). Over the years, not only the requirements have changed, but also the repertoire.
Among the winners of the competition are such names as David Oistrakh, Wanda Wiłkomirska and Oleg Krysa, or from the younger generation: Alena Baeva, Agata Szymczewska, Bomsori Kim and Veriko Tchumburidze.
For many of them, the competition was one of the first important steps on the road to international concert activity. For the public — often the first meeting with artists whose names soon begin to appear on the posters of the most important concert halls.
