Lars Danielsson, a classically trained cellist and double bass player with an extremely vocal sound, is one of the most important leaders of European jazz, who has been associated for years with the German branch of ACT Music. His compositional language is characterized by lyricism and melodiousness, so rarely found in jazz, and in the case of Danielsson, that part of his aesthetic that makes him one of the most sought-after double bass players and composers writing to order. He is also an active session musician, whose work includes performances with artists such as Nills Landgren, Kenny Wheeler, Jack DeJohnette or Trilok Gurtu, moving with equal freedom both in mainstream jazz, funk, middle music, and orchestral music as well as in the most niche, underground territories.
About the event
Leszek Możdżer seems to share a kinship in his romantic treatment of the language of jazz, because Możdżer is an artist known for building mood, carefully operating a pause, but possessing, like Danielsson, a very virtuoso performing workshop. The Polish pianist has extensive experience with film and classical music, and is also known for breaking stylistic limitations, because his musical erudition goes far beyond the traditional understanding of music, becoming an expression of research on deeper layers of musical communication. Lars Danielsson seems to be the perfect partner for him, who with virtuosity can transcend borders and reach for those secrets that cannot be written down in the notes. The duet Leszek Możdżer — Lars Danielsson is more than music, it is a unity that shows that in the world of matter a secret understanding is possible, rooted in abstraction and the idea of the search for beauty.
