Nat Osborn + Mike Parker Duo — New York sounds at TCK

Two outstanding musicians from New York, acoustic guitar and double bass. Nat Osborn and Mike Parker will perform in the Basements of TCK on November 20, artists whose musical journey has been going on for more than 15 years, combining the most powerful sounds of American folk, jazz and blues.

Two musicians from New York, acoustic guitar and double bass. Nat Osborn and Mike Parker will perform at the TCK Cellars on November 20. They have been playing together for more than 15 years, interspersing jazz, blues, folk and American music.

They met in an academic jazz band. Since then, they have come a long way — from street playing in Budapest, to New York clubs, to European festivals. On a daily basis, they are mainly associated with the exuberant Nat Osborn Band, in which they combine jazz, rock and soul. In a duet, they slow down the pace and bet on an intimate sound. Osborn puts down the keys for the acoustic guitar, and Parker swaps the electric bass for the double bass.

This change gives their music more breathing space. There is room for improvisation, but also for classical blues, folk and sounds rooted in the American tradition. Each of them brings their own background to the duo: Osborn leads the original band and the indie-folk group Hawthorne, and Parker is a double bass player and composer known for, among others, Mike Parker's Trio Theory and Mike Parker Quartet.

Despite their modest composition, their performances do not lack energy. Instead of a wall of sound, there is great contact, musical flair and long-standing friendship. This is the best concert to listen to up close.
