From the fairy tales of Moniuszko, through the virtuoso sound of the harp, to the timeless music of Czajkowski and the festive tradition of Polish Christmas carols. This is the program of a Christmas concert at the Zielona Góra Philharmonic.
The evening will be opened by Stanisław Moniuszko's fantastic “Fairy Tale” overture — one of the composer's most outstanding symphonic works, created as an independent musical tale. Moniuszko, called the father of the Polish national opera, created a work full of contrasts, picturesque images and lyrical melodies. The subtle dialogues of the instruments intertwine here with dramatic climaxes, creating an evocative narrative that - as the title suggests - stirs the imagination of listeners and transports them to the world of fairy tales.
The central point of the concert will be Reinhold Glière's Concerto for Harp Op. 74 — a work ranked among the most important positions in world harp literature. Created in 1938, the concert combines romantic expression with impressive virtuosity, presenting the harp not only as an instrument with a delicate, ethereal sound, but also as a full-fledged partner of the orchestra, capable of extraordinary force of expression and technical mastery. The soloist of the evening will be Joel von Lerber — a respected Swiss harpist, recognized as one of the most outstanding representatives of his generation. The artist performs on the most important stages of Europe and the world, collaborating with renowned orchestras and conductors. His interpretations are distinguished by musical maturity, unique sound culture and sensitivity, thanks to which the harp reveals the fullness of its expressive possibilities.
The second part of the concert will be filled with music by Piotr Tchaikovsky — Suite from the ballet “The Nutcracker” op. 71a, one of the most recognizable works in the history of classical music. The composer chose eight of the most beautiful ballet fragments for her, creating a brilliant cycle of orchestral miniatures. The audience will hear, among others, the characteristic Dance of the Sugar Fairy with the mesmerizing sound of celesta, energetic Trepak, full of oriental colors Arabic Dance, subtle Chinese Dance, graceful Waltz of Flowers. For more than a hundred years, the suite has been delighting listeners with its unusual instrumentation, lightness and fairytale atmosphere, being a symbol of musical elegance and children's imagination.
The finale of the evening will be Rafał Kłoczka's Christmas Carol Suite. The work is an impressive elaboration of the most beautiful Polish carols for symphony orchestra. The melodies familiar for generations here acquire a new, rich sound, while retaining their lyricism, simplicity and festive character.
