Concert of the band Szalom Chełm

We invite you to the concert of the band Szalom Chełm, which will take place on October 30 (Friday) at 1700 in the auditorium of the Maria Paulina Orsetti Public Library of Chełm (ul. Partyzanów 40). The event entitled “The whole world is one big Chełm” is implemented as part of the project “In search of tradition — at the junction of cultures, at the junction of generations”, co-financed from the state budget, granted by the Minister of Education as part of the program “Young Citizen's Compass”. Children, youth and adults are welcome.

The concert of the band Szalom Chełm will be a musical journey into the world of ancient Jewish towns, full of sounds and interesting stories.

Szalom Chełm was founded in 2012 by Mariusz Matera to present the richness of the culture of the former Jewish inhabitants of Chełm and the traditions of Klezmer music. The repertoire of the ensemble includes traditional songs in Hebrew, pre-war slagers, as well as author's compositions. The music is accompanied by stories about ancient customs and traditions, thanks to which the concert becomes not only a meeting with melodies and singing, but also a fascinating lesson in history and culture.

The band is known for energetic performances that can captivate the audience and create a unique atmosphere. In 2015, he gained national recognition, reaching the semi-finals of the program “I Have Talent!”. He also has the album “Szalom Chełm” on his account. The band currently consists of: Mariusz Matera (vocals), Dariusz Tokarzewski (guitar, cello), Krzysztof Kostrubiec (violin), Mariusz Narolski (clarinet), Marian Skiba (double bass) and Bogdan Depta (accordion).

The Szalom Chełm concert will be an opportunity to discover the musical heritage of multicultural Chełm, feel the atmosphere of the old shettles and see that music can connect generations, cultures and histories. We cordially invite you to a lively meeting with the tradition of the pre-war city, restoring the memory of the past — free admission.
