Although Paul McCreesh is regarded above all as an outstanding interpreter of Baroque music, his repertoire encompasses a much wider range of works. Proof of this is the program of the NFM concert of the Wrocław Philharmonic, during which music by Frederick Delius and Piotr Czajkowski will sound and a new composition written on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Radosław Pujanek's concert-master work in this orchestra.
The Walk to the Paradise Garden, which will open the evening, is the most famous and most frequently performed fragment of Frederick Delius' opera A Village Romeo and Juliet. It is lyrical music, subtle and sustained in gentle dynamics. The narration is mainly led by strings and woodwind instruments. The piece appears between the fifth and sixth scenes of the opera, when Sala and Vreli's lovers go to an inn called the Garden of Eden. A special moment of the concert will be the premiere of a new work by Przemysław Pujanek — violinist, chamber musician and composer. The artist is a graduate of the Universität der Künste in Berlin, a laureate of international competitions and collaborator of ensembles such as the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. His latest work was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Radosław Pujanek's work at the NFM of the Wrocław Philharmonic. Dialogues includes solo parts for violin and viola, and will be performed by the two Pujanek brothers. The title refers not only to a kind of “conversation” between them and the orchestra, but also reminds of the importance of dialogue as a basis for the exchange of thoughts, experiences and cultures. The author drew inspiration from the sounds, melodies and musical traditions of different corners of the world.
“I can tell you with sincerity that I consider this symphony to be the best thing I have written so far, in any case lived most deeply. I love her as I have never loved any of my compositions before,” Pyotr Tchaikovsky wrote of Symphony No. 6 in B minor “Pathetic” in a letter to his nephew, Vladimir Davydov. The premiere of the work took place on October 16, 1893 in St. Petersburg. Just nine days later, its author died. Sudden death in combination with the emotional and often dark nature of the music have become the source of numerous speculations regarding the circumstances of the creator's death. In the first part of the symphony there is a quote from an ecclesiastical mourning song, and the finale is the poignant Adagio lamentoso. The work, however, is much more multidimensional. The second link has the character of a waltz full of charm in an unusual 5/4 meter, while the third is an energetic, brilliant triumphal march. Its spectacular finale makes the audience often start applauding before the end of the composition. Will this also happen in NFM?
