If you think you have not heard the music of Delia Derbyshire, then you are most likely wrong. Unless you've never watched the iconic electronic top of the Doctor Who series. British pioneers of experimental music, associated with the BBC Music Workshop, composed mainly applied and illustrative music, which for decades condemned them to partial anonymity.
In principle, a typical ambient illustration is Derbyshire music for four documentaries, known as Inventions for Radio, created with playwright Barry Bermang. The story is told by ordinary British people sharing their experiences and reflections on Dreams, the Love of God, the Afterlife and the Twilight of Life. The discreet and subtle sounds of Derbyshire, however, turn these seemingly commonplace surges into mysterious, consciousness-expanding rituals.
Four liturgies — commented with solo microconcerts — are our plan for long autumn evenings.
