Conservation and restoration of glazed building ceramics

The conservation and restoration of glazes places special material requirements on suitable substitute material, which can be used both for the consolidation of porous glaze layers and as a supplementary material.

The presentation presents the hybrid polymer ORMOCER® glass and gives an overview of the current state of research. On the basis of selected practical examples, processing and application options for glaze consolidation and glaze addition are presented and the potentials and limits of the material are discussed.
