Konzerthaus Kammerorchester

Our Konzerthaus chamber orchestra in a particularly “concentrated” line-up with a sextet, a quintet and an octet for strings! Cellist Viola Bayer from the board of the member-led ensemble about the concert and its line-up:

“We have been playing together in the Konzerthaus Orchestra for many years and also in the chamber orchestra again and again. Especially for this evening with a small cast, it's nice that we can build on a lot of things we have in common musically. There is hardly a string quintet or sextet as a permanent independent ensemble, because far, far fewer pieces have been written for it than for string quartet. Otherwise, a quartet usually brings someone in and then has to find a new balance first. But this is very worthwhile, because among these larger ensembles there are wonderful classics that are rarely played, such as the works by Borodin or Glazunov in this concert. ”

The program also includes a brilliant youth work by 16-year-old Felix Mendelssohn from 1825, for which two string quartets would otherwise have to join forces to form an octet. He posthumously dedicated it to Eduard Rietz, his friend, violin teacher and concertmaster at the “Sunday Music” at Mendelssohn's house, who died in 1832 at just 29 years of age.
