Edvard Grieg presented only one piano concerto to the public — and he worked on it himself for a long time afterwards. He wrote it in 1868 during a trip to Denmark with his bride Nina, but was inspired by another woman: the famous pianist Clara Schumann, whom he had heard as a student in Leipzig with the A minor piano concerto by her husband Robert, who he greatly admired. Soloist Eric Lu is a guest at the Konzerthausorchester conducted by Andris Poga. The young American won the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2025.
Through the joint artistic life of their influential chief conductor Kurt Sanderling with Dmitri Shostakovich, the former Berlin Symphony Orchestra and today's Konzerthausorchester Berlin has a special musical relationship with the composer's symphonies. Among the legendary recordings conducted by Sanderling is the 15th and last symphony. In it, the already terminally ill Shostakovich lets his life go by.
Program: Edvard Grieg: Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor op. 16; Dmitri Shostakovich: Symphony No. 15 in A major op. 141
