Sometimes you're happy when you know beforehand that everything is going well! The overture to Mozart's opera “Idomeneo”, which premiered in 1781, can be listened to very carefree: In the end, the eponymous king of Crete does not have to sacrifice his son Idamante to the sea god Poseidon, the prince and his beloved princess Ilia take the throne, only a sea monster is harmed.
The harmony of Mozart's early “small” G minor symphony then unfolds — one of only two of his symphonies that are not in a major key. Conductor Giovanni Antonini next picks up the recorder as a Telemann soloist and finally Joseph Haydn's last symphony with number 104 is heard, which delights musical science with its flawless structure.
Program: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Overture to the opera “Idomeneo” K. 366; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony in G minor K. 183; Georg Philipp Telemann: Concerto for Recorder, Strings and Basso continuo in C major; Joseph Haydn: Symphony No. 104 in D major Hob I:104 (“Londoner”)
