The three great Viennese classics in one concert: In Divertimento K. 138 in 1772, Mozart made every effort to impress his Salzburg employer, the Prince-Archbishop, with the latest Italian style, which he had brought back from his travels to the south. In the course of Joseph Haydn's famous “Farewell Symphony,” one member of the orchestra after another leaves the stage. The work accompanies the legend that it was a sign to Prince Esterházy to end the summer season of 1772 so that the musicians could finally go home to their families. But that's not the end for the Konzerthaus Orchestra and conductor Jonathan Cohen, on the contrary: Beethoven's only very symphonic violin concerto will be performed with renowned soloist Antje Weithaas. The violin confronts the orchestra not as an artistic prima ballerina, but as an equal partner.
