About the event

In a world of war, crisis and uncertainty, we need stories and reflections on what to stand for and how.

“Coriolan” is an attempt to accompany the tragic hero — torn between ideals — the need for order, purpose, certainty — and people of blood and blood: mother, wife and fellow citizens.

Do honor, courage and the good of the state justify cruelty? What to lean on when everything is crumbling? What price can you pay for staying true to your resolutions? What kind of leaders does the community need? All these questions were written down by Shakespeare several centuries ago, and today we need to ask ourselves again.

The theme of the performance is thus the search for a moral signpost in times of uncertainty and war, as well as an attempt to embed ideas in reality — in the bodily presence of loved ones.

It is a story about the cruelty of war, the need for stability, the tension between ideas and reality, the public and the private, the front and politics, action and thought.

Cast:

Bożena Adamek - first citizen/ Volumnia Oliwia Durczak - second citizen/ Wirgilia Alina Szczegielniak - Koriolan (Kajus Marcjuesz) Tomasz Wysocki - third citizen/ Aufidiusz

The performance is a development of the play entitled “Koriolan” presented in the work in progress formula as part of the Competition for a New Yorick at the 29th Shakespeare Festival in Gdańsk, organized by the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theater.
