They were thirty-five years old, but it still seemed to them that on Tuesday there would be a quiz in Polish — in this sentence, Patrycja Mnich introduces readers to the world of “Cowboys”. Her new book is a collection of eight stories about people who are trying to arrange their lives, although they still feel that its proper beginning is only before them.
They work, they get into relationships and they come out of them, they leave, they come back, they start over. They want to be free and retain the ability to choose, while at the same time looking for closeness and a place to call home. The author tells about them with humor and tenderness, not bypassing difficult questions about loneliness, responsibility and the price of independence. As she herself admits, under the comedic surface “Cowboys” is primarily a book about finding belonging — to a person, a place, a family or a group of friends.
Daniel Grupa from the channel “Literaccy” draws attention to the courage with which the writer touches on topics often hidden even from the closest ones. He calls “Cowboys” a book about people constantly looking for love and recommends it as a “very strong thing.”
Patrycja Mnich, formerly known as Patrycja Nowak, is from Tarnów. She is a graduate of the 3rd General Education High School and the Jagiellonian University. She lived in Krakow for most of her adult life, and a few years ago she returned to her hometown. She has been writing screenplays for 25 years. She co-wrote the scripts for the films “Above Life”, dedicated to Agata Mróz-Olszewska, and “Because in me there is sex”, about Kalina Jędrusik. For this second script, she was included in the final of the Script Pro 2018 competition. She is also a co-creator of the idea and co-author of the series “St. Anne's Hospital”.
He writes prose for children and adults as well as theatrical texts. She attended the School of Art Writing at the Silesian Theater in Katowice under the supervision of Artur Pałyga. The play with her text “Strange Birds” won a distinction in the Competition for the Exhibition of Polish Contemporary Art. In January 2027, the premiere of her play “Hey, girl”, based on the book of the same name, is planned at the New Theater in Zabrze.
The musical part of the evening will be filled with an acoustic performance by STAFF. The band was formed in 2020 in the Nowa Huta underground and plays classic rock with a mix of punk, hard rock and grunge. In 2026 they released their debut album “Pyszny” — eight original songs with Polish lyrics.
The premiere of the song “Illusions”, recorded during an acoustic performance in Warsaw's Mała Scena, took place on October 8. The recording foreshadows a series of concerts in a more intimate version. This is also how STAFF will play in the Basements of TCK. The Tarnów audience was able to hear the band in the Piwnica “Przeraszam”, Maranto Vibe and during the Tarnowski Juwenalia.
STAFF consists of: Karolina Czerska — bass, Jan Gąszczyk — vocals, Piotr Paradowski and Miłosław Piątek — guitars and Sebastian Mnich — drums.
