About the event

Krystyna Kondratiuk - founder and long-time director of the Central Textile Museum in Łódź. Mother of two famous film directors. Thanks to her, the Polish artistic fabric became famous all over the world.

However, her unique biography hides many more facts that few people know about.

Why was she and her family taken to Siberia during the Second World War and then to Kazakhstan? And what does it have to do with the plots presented in the exhibition “Nine moons over the cotton field. Łódź and Central Asia”.

-----

We invite you to a walk dedicated to Krystyna Kondratiuk.

We will start with a tour of the exhibition. Here we will look at manuscripts and memorabilia related to Kondratiuk that have survived in our collections. Then we will leave the museum and go to the New Weaving Plant located on the Moon Mill — the former factory of Karl Scheibler, where she worked when she was less than 20 years old. This is a unique opportunity to view this post-factory space just before the start of the investment work.

We will look at the industrial Łódź from the perspective of an unusual biography of one of the most important characters for our city.

The walk will be led by the head of the Textile Industry Department Marcin Gawryszczak. We invite you!
