Krzysztof Skiba - “O KURDE, CURSE!” About the culture of the Polish language

What do Polish language, satire, rock and roll and sense of humor have in common? We will find out the answer during the first meeting of the series “On the culture of the Polish language. Damn, damn it!” , whose guest will be Krzysztof Skiba — satirist, columnist, author of books, radio operator, showman and legendary frontman of the band Big Cyc. The meeting will take place on October 9, 2026 at 6:30pm at the Centre of Tradition and Culture in Komorniki.

For almost four decades, Skiba has been one of the most recognizable figures of the Polish satirical and musical scene. Together with the band Big Cyc, he recorded 20 albums, sold more than 3 million albums and played more than 4 thousand concerts. As a songwriter, reality commentator and tireless observer of social life, he has been combining intelligent humor with an accurate diagnosis of the world around him for years.

He is a man of many talents and professions. He hosted popular television programs, appeared in hundreds of broadcasts and entertainment programs, worked on the radio, dubbed films and computer games, and his columns appeared on the pages of the most important Polish media.

However, before he gained popularity as an artist and showman, he was engaged in opposition activities during the time of the People's Republic of Poland. In the 1980s, he co-created the happenings of the Orange Alternative and was active in anti-communist social movements. For his work he was awarded the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity in 2013.

Skiba is also the author of many books — from collections of columns to satirical stories and publications devoted to the history of alternative culture and the realities of the Polish People's Republic. His latest book, a collection of satirical short stories “Women Are Naive”, was published in 2024.

During the meeting in Komorniki there will be anecdotes from the artist's life, stories related to stage, literary and media activities, as well as a conversation about a language that is constantly changing with us. It will also be an opportunity to ask questions and talk to the audience.
