Teutonic Knights — Stefan Jaracz Theatre in Olsztyn

Sienkiewicz, going back to the history of Poland's clash with the power of the Teutonic Order, created a story that quickly became more than just a history lesson. On the basis of medieval chronicles, he built a full picture of struggle, loyalty and national resistance at a time when the Poles themselves needed symbolic support.

At the center of the story, the author placed the moving story of Zbyszek and Danusa — an intimate and emotional narrative axis that adds a human dimension to the novel. “Teutonic Knights” is not only a literary classic, but also a manifesto of hope and cultural strength that survived despite political enslavement.

The director was entrusted to Jan Klac, one of the most important Polish theatre directors, who has been present on both Polish and international stages for years. He has more than thirty performances and many prestigious awards, including the “Polityka” Passport, the Golden Yorick and the Konrad Swinarski Award. His works have been repeatedly presented and distinguished at theater festivals in the country and abroad.

The adaptation was prepared in cooperation with Jan Klata Ishbel Szatrawska — a playwright appreciated by both jurors and the audience. In 2023 she won the Wawrzyn Prize — the Warmia and Mazury Literary Prize. She received both the Grand Prix and the Audience Award. She has collaborated with many institutions in Poland and Europe, winning scholarships and awards, among others within the DRAMOPISANIE, Stiftung Genshagen and Landis & Gyr Stiftung programs.

The show features a guest appearance by the Brotherhood of the Knights of Warmia Wild Company.
