About the team
The moon was created in the early 90s and originates from the experiences of the Poga Theater. Its creators were inspired, among others, by Jerzy Grotowski's theater of springs, traditional music and work with voice and body.
These theatrical and performative roots to this day remain an important part of the group's concerts, which often take the form of non-obvious, fleeting performances.
In the music of the Moon, inspirations from traditional Eastern European music, avant-garde, minimalism and psychedelia meet. The lyrics, mostly by Remigiusz Mazur Hanaj, lead through a world of dark fairy tales, surreal images and black humor.
An important motive remains the symbolism of the moon - transformation, cyclicity, birth and death, intuition and mystery.
The first stage of activity resulted in the albums Nów (1993) and Księżyc (1996). The second album was among the most important Polish alternative albums of the 1990s. After almost two decades of hiatus, the group returned to the stage in 2014 with a concert at the Unsound festival in Krakow.
Since then, Księżyc has performed in Poland and abroad, including OFF Festival, Roskilde Festival, Pop-Kultur, Unsound and A L'ARME! Festival, appearing both in concert halls and theaters, as well as museums, churches or other non-obvious spaces.
In 2015, the album Rabbit Eclipse was released, highly appreciated by Polish and foreign reviewers. The latest chapter of the group's history opens with the publishing house Księżyc Zawieje (2025/26).
