Adventure-philosophical art

Winnie the Fatalist and His Lord is a brilliant, humorous and philosophical perverse story by Denis Diderot, one of the most important thinkers of the Enlightenment. It is a philosophical novel of a road in which conversation becomes an adventure and chance becomes the main protagonist. In this extraordinary story, coincidence is mixed with destiny, and the light form hides surprisingly topical questions about freedom, choice and the meaning of human action.

In the interpretation of director Paweł Aigner, the classic text gains a new life — full of energy, irony and theatrical fun. We will see two titular characters who are constantly connected to each other — they cannot exist without each other. In contrast, the world around them goes crazy: philosophical conversations are taking place, there is drunkenness, there is a party and even a piano concert.

The form of the performance resembles the Enlightenment theater — it is a theater in a theater, where successive scenes are created before the eyes of the spectators, and the actors transform into courtiers, lafiryndas or simple people. The four actors play about twenty different characters, while the main characters remain unchanged and travel through this crazy, colorful, emotional and still surprising reality.

It's an intelligent and graceful journey where — like the heroes — we never quite know where we're going... but we're happy to let ourselves be guided.

Enter this story and let the theater guide you for a moment!

The premiere took place on May 23, 2026 in the Wozownia — Museum-Castle in Łańcut.

The performance is presented as part of the project “Klasyka 3.0” - an interdisciplinary initiative promoting the reinterpretation of the classics of literature realized by the Lublin, Lesser Poland, Podkarpackie and Świętokrzyskie voivodships. The presented theatrical performances are aimed at popularizing culture and cooperation between artistic institutions.
