CULTURE OF REBELLION/ MEETING WITH ANNA GACEK

IOC Olsztyn invites you to a meeting with Anna Gacek, a music journalist, with whom we will talk about contemporary forms of rebellion in music, art and culture. We will meet on October 8 at 18:00 at the DOBRO Gallery (Stare Miasto street 24/25).

Can rebellion still mess up?

He used to shock, break the rules, tease and change the culture. Today it can become a viral, a trend, a print on a T-shirt or an advertising campaign in a few hours. In such a world, can art really cross borders?

With Anna Gacek we will talk about artists, musicians and creators who did not want to politely fit into the existing framework. From Banksy and Jean-Michel Basquiat, through the musical and artistic revolutions of the following decades, to contemporary creators looking for their own language in the world of ready-made images, narratives, algorithms and artificial intelligence.
Is it even possible to be shocked when everything immediately becomes content to watch, comment on and share? Is the rebellion taken over by pop culture and the market still a rebellion? And finally: do young people still want to rebel — and if so, against what?
We will not look for a single, polite answer. We will look at what is holding us back today, what we are raising our voices against, and whether culture can still say no.

Anna Gacek: music journalist and radio presenter, for years associated with the Third Programme of Polish Radio. She broadcast coverage of the world's biggest festivals and concert tours. She conducted over a thousand interviews, spoke with Paul McCartney, Nick Cave, Patti Smith, Marianne Faithfull, Jack White and Alex Turner. In the podcast series “Sweet Teens” he analyzes the most interesting phenomena of pop culture of the 21st century. In September 2021, her book, “Ecstasy,” was published. The 90s The Beginning”. He is currently working on its continuation.
