Culture Night in the Cisterns: Unearth x Power

The cisterns once held Copenhagen's drinking water. Today they stand as an underground cathedral of brick arches beneath Søndermarken, where daylight never reaches down and where a single sound can linger for up to 17 seconds.

For one evening, Unearth, a Copenhagen-based platform for innovative music and art, and Strøm, which works with electronic music and sound culture, transform the iconic underground spaces into a sensuous meeting between sound, light and architecture.

Together they present a newly composed sound work and a site-specific lighting installation, created especially for the Cisterns, based on the special acoustics, darkness and monumental dimensions of the place. The light follows the vaults while the sound travels through the archways, letting the architecture step forward in new ways.

It will be a night when the Cisterns can be experienced, as they can rarely be heard or seen.

Access to the cisterns at Culture Night 2026 requires a Culture Pass. The Culture Pass can be purchased digitally from 11 September at 12 noon on Kulturnatten's website and displayed on the phone in the evening. If you want a physical Culture Pass instead, it can be purchased at all 7-Eleven stores in the metropolitan area from September 28.

Please note that Marina Abramović's exhibition Seven Deaths cannot be experienced during Culture Night.
