On the occasion of the Tiemann Prize 2026, artist Elif Saydam talks to curator Charlotte Knaup at Hamburger Bahnhof. The Tiemann Prize is a purchase price for museums in Germany and specifically supports the purchase of contemporary painting. With the 2026 prize, Hamburger Bahnhof acquires a group of six works by Elif Saydam from the “Späti Paintings” series.
Elif Saydam was born in Calgary in 1985 and lives and works in Berlin. Recent solo exhibitions include presentations at MIT List Visual Arts Center in Cambridge, Kunsthal Thy in Denmark and Oakville Galleries in Toronto. Saydam also took part in the 18th Istanbul Biennale. The discussion is about artistic practice and the newly acquired works.
