About the event

The main character of the new film by acclaimed Hungarian director György Pálfi is the eponymous hen. A seemingly defenseless animal escapes from an industrial poultry farm in search of a safe place to raise its chicks.

She ends up in a Greek seaside village, where she is captured by the owner of a run-down restaurant and forcibly “enters” the human world. She is an attentive observer of a reality completely alien to her. He also becomes a silent witness to human dramas related to the migration crisis, family conflicts or greed. The main character was played by eight real Hungarian hens: Eszti, Szandi, Feri, Enci, Eti, Enikő, Nóra and Anett.

Taking a non-obvious perspective, Pálfi talks about universal values — freedom, security, motherhood — which are sought not only by people. The Hungarian director boldly combines film genres to create a story that, on the one hand, can entertain us, and on the other is truly moving.
