About the event

6 p.m.

hosted by: Maciej Marciniak

online lecture realized as part of the art history course [From pyramids to street art] (https://www.mnw.art.pl/edukacja/mlodziez-dorosli/kursy-historii-sztuki/od-piramid-do-street-artu--przekrojowy-k-/)

Prehistoric art is primarily painting and rock glyphs. The most famous paintings have been preserved in the caves of Lascaux or Altamira. They were often magical or ritualistic in nature, that is, related to beliefs and to everyday life. In turn, the art of the ancient Middle East includes the work of peoples such as the Sumerians, Akkadians or Persians. Propaganda works come to the fore, i.e. the dowries of rulers or monumental palaces. In religious architecture, huge ziggurats reign.

Maciej Marciniak — archaeologist and educator, currently a PhD student at the Faculty of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw. He is interested in the art of ancient Rome, iconography, the issue of the clash of cultures and the cults of the Roman Empire.
