Kuzma

The story of Andriy Kuźmenka — the leader of the band “Skriabin”, who was loved by millions, but only a few really knew him. Through exclusive, previously unpublished archival material, the film reveals his inner transformation, sense of humor and self-irony, and a life lived at full speed, which continues to inspire generations to this day.

The film, directed by Artem Hryhorian, leads the viewer in the footsteps of Kuzma — from a boy from Novoyavorivsk to an icon of Ukrainian pop culture. It is a story of freedom, pain and love for people that echoed in his every word. The film portrays Kuzma as a figure of cultural memory who, despite the passage of more than a decade since his death, remains alive and continues to exert a tremendous influence.

“This is definitely not a classic documentary where everyone is talking about a hero. Of course, this cannot be completely avoided, but we wanted the viewer to spend this time with Kuzma himself — to see him as he really was. We knew him as a national hero, but we did not know the history of his journey. Kuzma can no longer speak directly to us. However, through the archives - maybe. The viewer does not hear so much about what happened in the past as he experiences this journey through his life here and now, on the screen,” says Maksym Serdiuk, producer of the film “Forge”.
