When darkness falls, Elin Brimheim invites Heinesen inside to the “quøldseta” at ALICE. An evocative evening devoted to Faroese music, literature and culture, where the light dims, calms down, and there is room for listening, singing and being together. With her warm and expressive vocals, live music, her own Faroese songs and readings, the popular songwriter and composer and her guitarist create a very special moment inspired by the old Faroese tradition of gathering at home around music, stories and presence.
A 'kvøldseta' (“evening sitting” in Danish) is an ancient tradition from the Faroe Islands, where you meet in the living rooms of each other's homes for live music, readings, fairy tales, needlework and evening fun. In recent years, the tradition has enjoyed a resurgence, with more and more Faroese invited to house concerts at each other's homes to cherish the culture, the deep roots of folklore and the close, intimate moment. Elin Brimheim Heinesen has been one of the first to resume the “kvøldseta” house concerts in her home, where guests in addition to her have contributed songs and readings. Now she's bringing the concept to ALICE.
Elin Brimheim Heinesen is one of the Faroe Islands' most respected songwriters and composers, known for her warm, expressive voice and a long and varied musical career. She has sung jazz, musicals, revue shows and pop rock, composed several symphonic works — and even performed with a hard rock band. She grew up in Tórshavn in the 1960s in a home filled with literature and music, started playing already as a child, and early on spearheaded feminist movement as a woman who, contrary to tradition, played music with the boys. And if the last name sounds familiar, Elin Brimheim Heinesen is also the mother of acclaimed Copenhagen-based singer Brimheim.
When Elin Brimheim Heinesen invites her to the quøldseta at ALICE, she enriches the audience with a rich repertoire of her own songs in the company of the talented guitarist Eyðun Mohr Hansen. The evening also features readings of Faroese literature during the break between the two sets.
