The Silesian Quartet came into contact with the music of Aleksander Tansman at the very beginning of his artistic path. In the author's series of concerts, artists return to their important and inspiring work. Concerts under the slogan Aleksander Tansman in France create a coherent story about the composer born in Łódź, who found his artistic home in the environment of Parisian intellectuals of the early 20th century. Together with the invited guests, the Silesian Quartet discovers the richness of Tansman's chamber music and looks at other composers belonging to his French circle.

About the event

The Silesian Quartet came into contact with the music of Aleksander Tansman at the very beginning of his artistic path. In the author's series of concerts, artists return to their important and inspiring work. Concerts under the slogan Aleksander Tansman in France create a coherent story about the composer born in Łódź, who found his artistic home in the environment of Parisian intellectuals of the early 20th century. Together with the invited guests, the Silesian Quartet discovers the richness of Tansman's chamber music and looks at other composers belonging to his French circle.

During the fourth concert in the series, Tansman's works will sound in the context of the French tradition. The VI String Quartet is one of the most valuable works of this genre in the composer's oeuvre. It is distinguished by its extremely lyrical character, and it is enhanced by the recurring chorus of Lento. Sonatina da camera for flute, harp and string trio is a piece from a mature period of Tansman's work, in which attention is drawn to economy of means, rhythmic vitality and expressive expression. A similar instrumental composition was used by Jean-Yves Daniel-Lesur in Suite médiévale. This 20th-century French composer was fascinated by early music — in his works he drew on the traditions of Gregorian chant, folk music and French classics of the 17th and 18th centuries. The harp also plays a special role in Claude Debussy's Danse sacrée et danse profane. The piece was commissioned by Pleyel to present the potential of the novelty: the chromatic harp. Although the instrument itself disappeared from the stages over time, the composition remained in the repertoire and today impresses with its subtle, flickering colors.
