FERN FLOWER

Can the search for happiness be the cause of unhappiness?

The main character is Yacuś — a boy raised in poverty who dreams of great wealth and a better life. Fascinated by tales of the mysterious Fern Flower that fulfills every wish, he decides to go in search of it on Midsummer Night. His expedition becomes not only an adventure full of unusual encounters — with Rusalka, the Dwarf and the magical Flower, but also a deep journey into himself. The pursuit of dreams leads Jacusia to a kingdom where he has everything he ever wanted — wealth, power, a grand palace. However, the price for it is high: the flower imposes a curse of loneliness on him, forbidding him to share happiness with others.

The play “Fern Flower” was created on the motifs of the fairy tale by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski. The story, published more than a century ago, does not lose its relevance today - we look at the figure of Jacusia through the prism of our modern day. Questions about the need for possession, the price of fulfilling dreams or attitude to nature accompany each of us. The creators propose an alternative ending to a well-known legend — how would Jacuś act if he knew the consequences of his choices?
