La forza del destino

Destiny or fateful coincidence? Leonora meets secretly with her lover Alvaro. They are posed by Leonora's father, who resolutely opposes this connection. In order to de-escalate the situation, Alvaro throws away his weapon — but a shot is released and the father dies. More and more, the characters are drawn into a maelstrom of guilt, revenge and persecution.

In La forza del destino, Giuseppe Verdi vividly talks about existential conflicts and, in a musical picture sheet, repeatedly juxtaposes large images of society between religious piety and war frenzy. Wide-ranging arias open up emotional abysses, powerful ensembles and choir tableaux drive forward the sometimes ironic inevitability of the action. With Philippe Jordan, an established expert on Verdi's music conducts. Vasily Barkhatov repeatedly traces the story back to the traumatic event at the beginning of the piece and traces the emotional life of the characters in a nuanced way from various perspectives.
