The Bitch

La Perra directed by Dominga Sotomayor, cast: Selton Mello, Manuela Oyarzún — Brazil, Chile — 2026 — 112 min.

Inspired by the novel by Pilar Quintana, “La Perra” is a story about loneliness and the desire to tame the elusive. Screened this year in Cannes, the film by Chilean director Dominga Sotomayor impresses with its raw beauty, transforming an intimate story into a show of the forces of nature. The sound of the ocean, the wind and the empty landscapes of the island remain in the memory long after the end of the session. At this year's Cannes Film Festival, La Perra was honored with the Palm Dog Award, which went to the four-legged actress Yuri.

On a remote island off the coast of Chilean Patagonia, Silvia leads a solitary life, making a living from fishing and collecting algae. When he adopts the abandoned female Yuri, everyday life takes on a new rhythm. The bond with the unruly animal fills the void left by the unfulfilled desire for motherhood. As Yuri begins to follow her own instincts, the woman must face what is out of control: both in nature and in herself.
