Bismarckstraße 35, 10627 Berlin, Berlin

Isolation and loneliness have become part of the collective world of experience since the corona pandemic at least. Violetta, the young noble courtesan, has to suffer her on her deathbed because she is forced to reject her lover due to social morals. Verdi's only opera set in the bourgeois world of his time demonstrates the double standards of a society that first lies at the feet of a young woman and then rejects her. The production by Götz Friedrich reinforces the emotionality of Verdi's music by telling Violetta's story as a flashback: The premonition of death is present right from the start and hovers like a shadow over the Parisian festival party. This is how a timeless drama with a requiem character unfolds. We are eagerly awaiting the Violetta debut by Federica Lombardi, an audience favorite at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. She is later replaced by Martina Russomanno, who will join our ensemble from the 26/27 season. M
