About the event

In November 2008, a unique event took place in Lublin, which brought together more than seven thousand people in the Globus Hall. The Musical Theater in Lublin presented the opera “La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi to such a large audience.

On the occasion of the Jubilee of the 75th anniversary of the Musical Theatre in Lublin, we decided to resume this production and invite the Spectators to this wonderful performance.

The action of the opera takes place in and near Paris in the 2nd half of the 19th century. It tells the story of the courtesan Violetta Valery, with whom the young poet Alfred Germont falls in love. Tempted by the vision of life at the side of handsome Alfred, Violetta abandons her protector Baron Douphol and ends up at the big ball to a country estate where she begins an idyllic life. However, this situation is overshadowed by Violetta's illness and dwindling savings. Convinced by Violetta's sister Annina, Alfred goes to Paris to get money, and at that time his father pays a visit to the former courtesan to convince her to abandon Alfred, as the mesaliance is detrimental to his sister's marriage plans. Violetta finally succumbs to Giorgio's persuasion and leaves for the French capital to return to her previous lifestyle. She is followed by Alfred, who at the ball leads to a confrontation between him and Baron Douphol and the mistress herself. Outrageous behavior in effect ends with a challenge to a duel. Violetta, tormented and ill, struggles with suffering in solitude and this is how I find her Alfred, who after some time returns from a long journey. Finally, he learned about the illness and sacrifice of his mistress, and also begged his father for permission to marry Violetta. It is too late for a happy ending, Violetta dies in the arms of her beloved.

The libretto of the opera “La Traviata” written by F. M. Piave is based on the novel by A. Dumas “The Lady of Camellia” and constitutes one of the most interesting and intelligent stories in the history of world opera. “Traviata” is widely recognized as Verdi's most perfect work, in which the music perfectly harmonizes with the intimate mood created by the artists.
