About the event

A wealthy Warsaw merchant falls in love with an impoverished aristocrat. EPIC SCREEN ADAPTATION OF THE CULT NOVEL BY BOLESŁAW PRUS! For nearly 140 years, the work of Bolesław Prus has been igniting the emotions and imagination of subsequent generations.

Now this timeless story hits the big screen in a spectacular new cinematic installment.

“Lalka” is a superproduction made with great fanfare and the most star-studded film in the history of Polish cinema, where, among many prominent names, starring Marcin Dorociński as Stanisław Wokulski, star of “Chłopów” — Kamila Urzedowska as Izabela Łęcka and Marek Kondrat returning to the big screen after 16 years in the role of Ignacy Rzecki.

The new film adaptation of “Dolls” is a poignant, universal story told with a contemporary sensibility about love and unfulfillment, about aspirations and transformation, about a world that is just ending. It's a film that happens once every few decades: epic, full of emotion, made with impressive scenography, costumes and makeup worked out to the smallest detail, and a truly stellar cast.

Behind “Lalka” is a team of the best creators of Polish cinema. The director of the film is Maciej Kawalski, whose film “Dangerous Gentlemen” was recognized as one of the best debuts of recent years. The cinematographer is Piotr Sobociński Jr., one of the most outstanding cinematographers of his generation, giving the film a unique emotional depth. Katarzyna Sobańska, Marcel Sławiński and Anna Mocny are responsible for the scenography, creating a historically reliable world of the era. The unique costumes, giving the characters an expressive character, were designed by Katarzyna Lewińska in cooperation with Tomasz Ossoliński. The whole is completed by the precise characterization of Aneta Brzozowska.

Warsaw at the end of the 19th century. The heart of Stanisław Wokulski (Marcin Dorociński) is possessed by a mad love for Izabela Łęcka (Kamila Urzedowska). He, thanks to the fortune won in the war, returns to the country and decides to enter the world of the higher spheres in order to win the hand of his beloved. She is dazzling and haughty, but despite her aristocratic background, she struggles with the specter of financial ruin. At Wokulski's side stands his faithful friend, Ignacy Rzecki (Marek Kondrat), a romantic who watches with nostalgia as the world of ideals gives way to social aspirations and the ruthless game of interests. Wokulski enters the labyrinth of aristocratic salons, where every gesture can be the beginning of intrigue, and every word — a harbinger of betrayal. Rivals in his path, unexpected alliances and dramatic choices will test his dreams and faith in the people. This is a story about a love infatuation that changes the destinies of the characters and blurs the boundaries between heart and reason.

After several decades, “Doll” returns to the big screen to once again touch the hearts of several generations of Poles! It is a film that teenagers can see together in the cinema, with their parents, with their grandparents and even their great-grandparents and each of them will feel something, experience something, and then they will be able to discuss it for a long time. Working on such a film is a real honor for all creators! We give absolutely everything to create something special, beautiful and important - Maciej Kawalski, director
