Long night of song

Like hardly any other place in Berlin, the Apollo Hall of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden is suitable for opening up a space for the song in which this art form can develop in a particularly coherent way. The proximity of singers, players and listeners makes close communication possible — word and sound, poetry and music can be conveyed in a very direct way and appeal to the audience. Over a longer period of time than is usual at a classical song recital, the song is to be given a presence here and now, with compositions from different musical cultures and a wide variety of styles. Out of their enthusiasm for the art of song, singers from the ensemble and the State Opera's International Opera Studio have selected pieces together with their pianists that are particularly close to them and which they each listen to with their individual vocal and expressive qualities. Informative and descriptive words are added to create a holistic space of experience in conjunction with the musical contributions — over an evening lasting several hours into the night, in the inspiring atmosphere of the Apollo Hall.
