Our Figaro is on vacation: In a villa by the sea, on summer vacation, emotions boil up, old bills are settled and intrigues are spun. At the end of this “great day,” however, there is forgiveness: Once again, love has won and leaves everyone satisfied: Count and Countess, Figaro and Susanna, Bartolo and Marcellina — and even Cherubino, who had mixed everything up before.
Mozart was particularly interested in musical theatre, opera seria and opera buffa. The trilogy of “Da Ponte Operas”, written in the middle and late 1780s on libretti by the Italian theatre poet, has not become famous for nothing. Figaro, already a successful piece during his lifetime, has become a prime example of a “musical comedy,” admired by many, made one of their favorites by directors, conductors, singers and, last but not least, the audience. Hardly any composer has succeeded as Mozart in revealing the subtle and subtle emotional impulses of his characters in music, in a very direct, highly concise and impressive way. Jürgen Flimm's production brings Mozart's comedic masterpiece to life by giving the characters space to open up their emotional worlds in a relaxed atmosphere, in the countryside close to the sea, to articulate their wishes and tendencies, and to sharpen and resolve conflicts again.
