Swedish indie rock legends Les Big Byrd will take on the Flea on December 5th!

Les Big Byrd is a Swedish psychedelic rock band, formed in Stockholm in 2011 by Joakim Åhlund and Frans Johansson. Over the years, they have developed a distinctive sound that unites hypnotic krautrock rhythms, full-bodied synthesizer songs and soaring guitar melodies. The band started as a duo, but later expanded with the keyboard player Martin Ehrencrona and the drummer Nino Keller. Ehrencrona left the group in the early 2020s and from 2022 was replaced by keyboard player Christian Olsson of Eternal Light Brigade.

Their debut album, They Worshipped Cats (2014), introduced audiences to the band's nebulous and spatial sonic universe, while Iran Iraq Ikea (2018) moved even further into a synthesizer-driven and melancholic krautrock landscape. In 2022, they released Eternal Light Brigade, a critically acclaimed album that refined their blend of gleaming psychedelics and atmospheric soundscapes.

In March 2024, Les Big Byrd released their fourth studio album, Diamonds, Rhinestones and Hard Rain, which marked a significant step in their musical evolution. The album, which features lyrics in both Swedish and English, is an immersive journey through expansive and improvisatory soundscapes. It opens with the sprawling ten-minute number Mareld and concludes with the hypnotic twelve-minute-long The Night Bus. The album testifies to the band's ability to create mesmerizing and enveloping sonic experiences. The title track Diamonds, Rhinestones and Hard Rain is a particular highlight, with glittering melodies and haunting echoes gradually building up into an intense, pulsating groove.

The band's live performances are a natural extension of their studio work -- hypnotic, loud and deeply immersive. Known for their juxtaposed musical expression and their ability to create an almost trance-like atmosphere, Les Big Byrd has performed at renowned festivals such as the Reeperbahn Festival and the Freak Valley Festival, as well as at prominent venues around Europe, including Debaser Strand in Stockholm, Blå in Oslo and Molotow in Hamburg. Their concerts are characterized by pulsating rhythms, swirling visual effects and long improvisations, making each performance a unique and transformative experience - an experience you won't want to miss at the Flea on December 5!
