Leszek Kułakowski belongs to the group of Polish pianists and composers who have consistently combined jazz with contemporary and classical music for years. In his work, he reaches for elaborate forms, odd meters, free improvisation and solutions characteristic of the so-called third current, that is, the area between jazz and composed music.
Kułakowski's collaboration with German trumpeter Christoph Titz has a longer history. Titz participated in the recording of the 2014 album “Looking Ahead”, which also featured Piotr Kułakowski and Tomasz Sowiński. The musicians also met at the project “Komeda Variations”, dedicated to the work of Krzysztof Komeda.
Christoph Titz is a German trumpeter and flugelhorn player who has been associated with the Berlin jazz scene for years. He studied jazz trumpet in the Netherlands, recorded original albums and regularly collaborates with Polish musicians, including Leszek Kułakowski.
At the 26th JAZZ Od Nowa Festival the quartet will perform as follows:
Leszek Kułakowski — piano Christoph Titz — trumpet, flugelhorn Piotr Kułakowski — double bass Tomasz Sowiński — drums
The concert will take place on October 15, 2026 at 20:00 at ACKiS “Od Nowa” in Toruń.
