About the event

We invite you to the meeting dedicated to the book Letters & Spirit. New Typography, which will become the starting point for a common conversation about contemporary graphic design, typography and their changing role.

The book takes up a dialogue with the ideas of Jan Tschichold and his New Typography, juxtaposing the radical postulates of modernism with the later choices of the designer. It is a story of tensions between idea and practice, avant-garde and tradition, manifesto and everyday design work.

Instead of the classic presentation of the publication, we propose a meeting in the format of a round-table discussion — an open discussion at a common table. We want to talk about what of the old ideas remains relevant, how we understand the language of typography today and what questions contemporary design poses.

Noviki is an artistic and research duo working at the intersection of art, technology and design, created by Marcin Nowicki and Katarzyna Nestorowicz. Their practice focuses on the study of the transformations of visual culture and aesthetics emerging from the relationship between language, digital tools, algorithms and artificial intelligence systems. They treat design as a cognitive and critical method, and publications, exhibitions and publishing processes as forms of artistic research. They are the initiators of research think tanks such as Future Fragments, which create a space of exchange between art, theory and technological practice. Their activities are situated between visual experimentation and reflection on culture in a state of constant transformation — where technologies not only produce images and narratives, but also redefine ways of thinking, perceiving and constructing meanings.

Future Fragments is an initiative aimed at all those interested in the changing present and the coming future. It combines art, technology and theoretical reflection, reflecting on what intelligence and creativity are today. We treat them not as fixed characteristics of individuals, but as complex phenomena arising in relationships and developing in interactions between organisms, systems, and environments. Technology, on the other hand, is not opposed to nature, but we see it as another layer of the global ecosystem. We create a space for the exchange of thoughts and experiences, where people representing different fields meet. Through lectures, discussions, workshops, presentations and publications, we explore contemporary transformations and the relationship between art, technology, culture and the environment.
